DOLCE & GABBANA — Ode To Italy

It’s all about Sicily’s landscape, rippling with dust and heat in the midsummer’s day. The Dolce & Gabbana Men’s Fall/Winter 2016-2017 collection was a bold declaration of love for the seductive Italy along with its incomparable artistic treasures and culture, and specifically through the lens of the Sicilian Western.

Inspired by Sergio Leone’s iconic “Spaghetti Westerns” movies directed in the 1960s, we saw a strong contrast between the past and the present: the silhouette of current luxury streetwear enriched with embroidery and needlepoint décor reminiscent of the Wild West.

Throughout the creative process, both the founders, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, shared that they took references on these classics films while listening to the music that Ennio Morricone composed, which, naturally became the soundtrack of the fashion show.

As the models kicked up on the dusty runway (imagine masculine Sicilian workmen of the time), it was evident that the Sartorial element played a significant role in the whole collection. All pieces were impeccably tailored and in line with the rich history and tradition of the luxurious Italian house.

Every microscopic detail found on the collection has been enhanced by the DNA of Dolce & Gabbana, illustrating how a memory can be accessed contemporarily. For Dolce and Gabbana, it is essential to always convey a story through their collections, creating and presenting pieces with a soul that warms the heart.
